Our hospital bag must-haves (advice from mothers who packed all the wrong things)...

You wouldn’t stuff your belongings into a Waitrose bag for a weekend at Soho Farmhouse. So why should your stay in hospital be any different?  It might not be your most glamorous night away, but you can certainly do your best to make it feel like it.

The things worth packing:

  • Your favourite weekender/tote (top tip: compartmentalise - the last thing you need is to be rummaging around for a nappy or your phone charger in the middle of the night)
  • A second tote (for dirty laundry)
  • Your Mirukī sleepwear: to feel beautiful and comfortable at all times
  • Your favourite slippers or slouchy socks
  • High-waisted cotton knickers or disposable maternity pants
  • Your going-home outfit - comfort is key, but make it something that makes you feel like you, right from the very beginning of motherhood, whether it’s a floaty dress or your matching Mirukī lounge set (think easy feeding access and breathable fabrics)
  • Your bathroom essentials (we don’t feel put-together without our LANEIGE lipbalm to hand)
  • Maternity pads (these are a must - you will live in these for the first few weeks!)
  • Phone charger (and an extra-long cable so you don’t have to move an inch)
  • Water bottle with a straw for easy drinking - go for a 500ml bottle here!
  • Your favourite snacks (we’re talking anything that brings you joy - and lots of it)
  • Nappies
  • Baby wipes
  • Babygrows
  • Vests
  • Socks (for both mother and baby)
  • Hats
  • Your favourite newborn outfit for your pride and joy to arrive home in - we adore anything from Isla and Fraser
  • Your Maisie Muslin (mindfully made, endlessly useful and beautifully Mirukī)
  • Baby blanket
  • Car seat (we recommend practising popping the car seat in and out at home before the baby arrives)
